Wash it down with one of our Medal Winning Single Origins or coffee blends.  Smile at Dara and his Merry Crew; tell them its your first visit and they will probably give you a free welcoming coffee.  Just don’t do it twice, memory like a steel trap.

Imagine being able to roast your favourite coffee.  You can using our computer controlled Piccolo Chinook air coffee roaster.

Pick any one of our approximately 30 Single Origins, choose one of our blends or create your own.  You will run the controls on your very first roast.  And, it only takes 15 minutes or maybe a little longer if you want us to Agtron the coffee for you.

Accurate uniform coffee roasting is easy when you have the right equipment.  Along with the roasted coffee you will be given a report of all roasting settings and a graph of the process so you can duplicate it the next time; or roast a little lighter or darker.  Oh, and a coffee beverage is included to savour while you roast the coffee.



The Chinook roasting system has been developed over the last 30 years with many operating up and down the East coast of Australia and internationally in the USA and New Zealand.
Air roasting has many advantages over other methods.  These advantages are becoming more important with more high-quality coffees emerging with complex flavours and varietal characteristics.
Some Air Roasting advantages are:
Vigorous air suspension of the coffee beans during roasting assures the cleanest result by eliminating all chaff and dust.  This allows us to more fully appreciate their complex varietal flavour.
Heat is applied to the coffee in a very agile and controllable way; heat accepted by the air is applied to the coffee within a fraction of a second.  This eliminates many of the heat control latency problems of older technologies.
The even application of heated air to the coffee beans assures all beans are heated evenly.  Over and under-roasted batches are a thing of the past.
Choosing the coffee and establishing the roasting profile (the recipe which controls how the heat is applied to the coffee) is
the interesting artsy-crafty part.  This is the most productive way of using our olfactory, taste and visual sensory skills.
During production, all variables are monitored 10 times per second against the recipe. Consistent management of bean temperature, critical to the success of the roast, is assured.
In this way, the Chinook can automatically compensate for the varying moisture content of the coffee.
Once the start button is clicked the roasting operator no longer needs to attend to the roaster.  They are free to do creative things like taste different coffees, develop award-winning blends and use the Piccolo Chinook sample roaster to trial different roasting recipes.
We think of the Chinook as a good friend who never gets bored and always encourages us to have a coffee break after the start button is clicked!
